Senate

Academic Professionals (APs) play an important role in shared governance at the University of Illinois Chicago. AP representation in the UIC Senate ensures that the professional staff voice is reflected in campus policy development and decision-making.

Eligibility & Membership

All academic professionals with a permanent appointment of 50% or more FTE at UIC are eligible to serve.

Academic Professional representation consists of nine (9) Senators.

Senators serve three-year terms, with approximately one-third elected each year.

There is no limit to the number of consecutive terms an AP may serve.

The academic professional electorate includes all individuals holding permanent appointments of 50% or more FTE at UIC.

Elections

The Academic Professional Advisory Committee (APAC) serves as the official election unit for academic professional senators.

Nomination & Election Process

APAC oversees the nomination and election process each spring.

Announcements about the AP Senate Representative elections are shared in March.

Nomination forms and related information will be available on this page in the Spring.

If there are more candidates then representative seats, an election will be held. The APAC Executive Committee will prepare the ballots containing the candidate information and voting instructions and distribute them to all UIC academic professional staff via Qualtrics.

Following voting, the Executive Committee oversees the full election process and certifies the winners. Winners will be notified via email by mid April.

The application form for the UIC AP Senate Representatives will open on Friday, March 6 and will be closed on Friday, March 27, 2026. There will be three AP Senate Representative seats for this term (2026 – 2029).
