Ana Marija Sokovic is the Lead Computational Scientist at UIC’s Advanced Cyberinfrastructure for Education and Research (ACER), where she develops AI research initiatives, optimizes HPC workflows, and leads education and outreach programs in machine learning, generative AI, and parallel computing. As Chair of Chicago Women in High Performance Computing, she champions diversity and inclusion in STEM, with a mission to empower women and minorities through mentorship, training, and community building. She serves on APAC’s Recruitment & Retention Subcommittee, Representation Subcommittee, and Ad Hoc Mentorship Initiative, applying her advocacy experience to strengthen member engagement, representation, and professional development opportunities. A board member of SIGHPC, she co-chairs conference programming at PEARC, advancing cross-disciplinary HPC collaboration and AI adoption. Guided by the belief that a better society begins with caring about issues beyond one’s immediate concerns, she is committed to fostering a culture of civic participation and shared responsibility. In all her roles, she works to ensure that professional staff voices are heard, valued, and included in shaping the future of UIC.
