Barbara Gottesman has worked at UIC for 8 years. She was appointed as the Director of Program Administration for the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) in the Spring of 2023. In this role, she collaborates with the program directors in all aspects of program management, policy and program development, student mentoring, and interacts regularly with faculty and staff at the College of Medicine. During her time at UIC, Barbara has worked in research administration and academic advising. Her well-rounded experience at UIC led her to APAC, as she was ready to take on more challenges at the campus level. Her passion and belief in professional development can be seen in the APAC programs she helps plan and coordinate, under the Education & Engagement and Recruitment & Retention committees, of which she is a part. Further, Barbara has been working on establishing a new Mentoring Initiative for academic professionals at UIC and hopes to see it move to the implementation stage soon. Barbara also serves on the College of Medicine Staff Development Committee, where she also serves on the the Professional Development subcommittee.
Barbara holds a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences with a concentration in Industrial Psychology, and a Master of Public Health in Health Policy and Administration. As an alumna of UIC, she is thrilled to be back at her alma mater, working with students, staff, and faculty, to help shape and inform our future leaders and research scientists. Barbara is honored to serve on APAC.
